Anna Friel has been acting since the age of 13, appearing in a number of British and American films, television programmes and theatrical productions. Anna’s latest role sees her reprise detective Marcella Backland for the third season of hugely popular Netflix and ITV series Marcella, for which she won and International Emmy. She recently played the lead in Starz’s critically acclaimed ‘THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE,’ alongside Louisa Krause and Carmen Ejogo. She starred and co-produced Butterfly an award winning mini-series, where she plays the mother of a young boy who wishes to transition to a girl. And, later this year Anna will also be staring in another new ITV drama, Deep Water, produced by Kudos (Grantchester, Broadchurch, Tin Star).
Anna recently shot movies ‘TOMATO RED’, directed by Oscar-nominated Juanita Wilson, and ‘I.T.’ alongside Pierce Brosnan.
She can also been in Peter Horton’s ‘AMERICAN ODYSSEY’ for NBC which aired BBC2 in 2018 and is currently on NETFLIX, as well as ‘GOOD PEOPLE’ opposite James Franco and Kate Hudson. Last year Anna also starred BBC’s original drama series ‘BROKEN’, for which she received the Series Mania’s prestigious Best Actor award in the International Section, and a BAFTA nomination for best supporting actress. Starring opposite Sean Bean, she plays a mother of three driven to a desperate act when she loses her job.
Other recent notable work includes Showtime pilot THE VATICAN for director Ridley Scott and Michael Winterbottom’s THE LOOK OF LOVE, in which she stars alongside Steve Coogan as the wife of infamous British billionaire, Paul Raymond. She stole the notices for the critically-acclaimed Christopher Hampton adaptation of UNCLE VANYA in London’s West End in 2014 and managed to fit in THE PAVEMENT PSYCHIATRIST with Idris Elba for Sky Arts.
